There is no city, state or country which does not witness one violence or crime daily. One natural phenomena which is constant in every society no matter how secured it is violence and crime.

Violence and crime can come in different forms but the most common crimes in the United States are armed robbery, burglary, murder, and kidnap.

According to a report released recently by the FBI, the rate of violence and crime in the United States is on the decrease unlike what it was in the 90’s when murder and assassination of even government officials was a daily occurrence.

As of 2016, it was reported that there was a 3.4 rise in violence and crime rate and over 380 violence was recorded per 100,000 residents, but that was back on 2016 as things has improved a little since then.

So now let us take a look at the top 10 most dangerous cities in the United States of America.

10. Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis which is the largest city in Indiana has one of the highest and worst crime rates in America ranging from rape to armed robbery, burglary, street fights and murder.

The homicide rate in Indiana increased tremendously between 2012 and 2014 and according to accurate reports, the murder rate in this city also surged higher by almost fifty percent by early 2015.

The violent crime rate in Indianapolis is 1,374 per 100,000 residents.

In 2016, over one hundred and forty (140) persons were murdered.

According to reports, the violent crime rate in just Indiana alone is more than thrice that of the whole United States of America.

The burglary rate in Indianapolis is more than 2.5 times the national average.

 

9. Stockton, California

This city currently ranks number nine on the list of most dangerous cities in the United States.

The most common crime in Stockton are physical assault and rape.

The violent crime rate in this city is 1,421 per 100,000 residents and forty-nine (49) persons were reportedly murdered in cold blood in this city in 2016.

One of the major causes of high crime rate in Stockton is the high rate of unemployment and dwindling economy.

The unemployment rate in this city is at 8.7 percent which is much higher than the national average of 4.9 percent.

 

8. Oakland, California

This city makes the eight position on this list of most dangerous cities in the United States.

The most common crimes here are robbery and burglary and this has been an issue since the late 1960’s.

Robbery is targeted at one person out of every 91 resident in Oakland.

The violent crime rate in Oakland, California is 1,421 per 100,000 residents and in 2016 over forty five (45) persons were murdered.

To tell you how high the robbery rate in Oakland has gotten, just in 2016 over seven hundred cases of robbery and burglary was recorded.

 

7. Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The amount of crime which is recorded in Milwaukee annually is higher than that recorded annually in the whole of United States and that is why it is ranked on number seven of most dangerous cities in the United States.

The most common crimes in Milwaukee is 1,533 per 100,000 resident and in 2016 on hundred and forty one (141) persons were murdered.

 

6. Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland comes in at number six position on this list, as it has a violent rate of 1,630 crimes per 100,000 residents.

The major causes of violence in this city is high rate of unemployment, rampant poverty and other social problems.

 

5. Kansas City, Missouri

The city of Kansas ranks fifth on list of most dangerous cities in America with a crime rate of 1,654 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

This city has a higher homicide rate than most cities in the United States, as it records about 24 murders per 100,000 which is higher than the country’s average.

Violent crimes in Kansas City has reportedly spiked up by 18 percent from 2015 to 2016.

4. Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore city in Mary land is the fourth most dangerous city in the United States as it has an average crime rate of 1,780 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

The major crimes in Baltimore are robbery and assault and most of this crimes have been due to illegal drug trafficking and a staunch poverty and unemployment rate in the city.

The homicide rate in Baltimore is relatively high compared to other cities, especially in 2017 when it rose to about 57.8 percent.

In 2016, over three hundred (300) people were murdered.

3. Memphis, Tennessee

The third most dangerous city in United States is Memphis which is in Tennessee as it has a crime rate of 1,819 violent crimes per 100,000 resident.

Over the past decade, Memphis has established itself as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States of America and much of this has been caused by poor economy, unemployment and high poverty rate in the city.

In 2016, over one hundred and eighty (180) people were murdered.

 

2. St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis occupies the number two on this list with a crime rate of 1,913 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

Crime and violence has become a better part of St. Louis over the past decade and it is not stopping soon unless serious measures are put in to place to curtail it.

St. Louis has the highest murder rate in the whole of United States of America.

Over fifty homicide cases per 100,000 are recorded annually in this city which is ten times the national homicidal rate.



1. Detroit, Michigan

Detroit comfortably sits at the number one on this list of most dangerous cities in the United States, it is definitely not a place to live except for the brave and courageous.

Some of the common crimes in Detroit which have become an everyday way of life are rape, sometimes gang rape, aggravated assault, armed robbery, manslaughter, possession of deadly weapons, assassination, murder, burglary, and the list goes on and on.

In recent times, there have been decrease in crime rate in Detroit as the number of murder and homicide reached its lowest in the past 47 years recently and only 298 murder and intentional homicide cases were recorded.

In 2016, over three hundred people were murdered in Detroit and the crime rate once again rose to 16.3 percent due to increase in assault.

Detroit also ranks as the 42nd most dangerous city in the World.
